In a collaborative effort between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Federal Government of Nigeria, 155 Nigerian irregular migrants who were stranded in various parts of Libya have been safely repatriated. The voluntary repatriation exercise aims to ensure the secure return of Nigerian migrants who found themselves in difficult situations in Libya.

The Charge D’Affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, Kabiru Musa, announced this significant development. The evacuation of stranded Nigerian migrants has become a regular operation under the IOM’s program. The primary objective is to provide a safe passage for these individuals back to their home country.

Late on Tuesday evening, the returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos. They were transported on an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG. The group included 14 males, 110 females, 23 children, and eight infants.

To ensure a smooth transition for the returnees, officials from various Nigerian agencies were present at the airport, including the National Emergency Management Agency, Port Health Service, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
