Two Police Mobile Force policemen were slain by unidentified gunmen, while another was wounded by bullets in an ambush in Enugu State.

The Operation Restore Peace Enugu squad was on a routine patrol along the Udi-Ozalla Road when the incident reportedly happened at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.

According to a source who spoke to Daily Sun, the deceased officers were Inspector Abu Elamaje and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Danjuma Joseph.

According to reports, the police officers were taken urgently to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla for treatment, but the on-call medical staff declared the pair dead.

Inspector Udeme Udomeng, who suffered gunshot wounds, was treated and then released from the hospital’s mortuary while the bodies of the killed security personnel were later sent there for postmortem examination.

The police source further stated that efforts were being made to catch the runaway criminals.

According to information from the command, “MINE and other command tactical teams reinforced at area of incident on cordon and search operation for possible arrest of suspects. Further development shall be communicated.”
