The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Senate in Awka has committed to take severe action against any instructor who is discovered to have harassed female students sexually.
Prof. Charles Esimone, the institution’s vice chancellor, had recently made the decision to install closed-circuit cameras in professors’ offices.
However, other academics vehemently opposed the plan, citing the invasion of their privacy.

However, the Senate of the University decided to take harsh action against teachers who were found to be pressuring female students for sex at a meeting on Wednesday, whose decision was obtained by Newsmen.
The Senate also issued a warning to students against provocative behaviour and inappropriate clothing.
The report of the Senate as obtained by Newsmen read: “Sexual defilement of students in the offices was reported to the Senate.
“It was resolved that to check the abominable act, the management should strictly adhere to punitive measures in line with the University laws.
“Lecturers were, therefore, warned not to indulge in such practices or face the wrath of the law. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

“The use of all forms of indecent dresses in the University is prohibited. Staff and students were requested to change their indecent dresses urgently. Punishment is one month of community service and expulsion if repeated and found guilty,” the resolution read.
The Senate argued that all books must be offered in the library and spoke out against writers selling their books directly to students.
