Police Detain Driver For Stabbing LASTMA Officer

A driver of a painted Volkswagen ‘T4’ commercial bus with the license plate LSR 966 YE was detained by police officers from the Iponri Police Station in Lagos yesterday for stabbing a member of the state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

LASTMA officers stopped the driver earlier for obstructing traffic near the Costain round-about in Lagos.

Olajide Olukoga (also known as Bravo), a LASTMA officer who was in charge of the enforcement squad, claimed that the Volkswagen commercial “T4” bus was stopped for seriously obstructing traffic for other drivers by picking up passengers on the main expressway. Iponri.

According to him, the enforcement was carried out after several warnings to drivers to use designated bus-stops before picking or dropping passengers.

He said: “Our enforcement team had successfully apprehended the driver despite dangerous driving attempts to escape before he brought out a knife and stabbed me.
“After seeing the deep cut he had inflicted on me with the knife, he decided to strip himself naked and caused serious commotion before he was eventually arrested by officers from Iponri police station.

“After his arrest, dangerous weapons, including a machete and knife were recovered from the bus by security officers.

Olukoga said the driver would be prosecuted immediately, to serve as a deterrent to others.
