Nnewi North Records 100% Successful Sanitation Exercise

In accordance with environmental sanitation act, the Nnewi North Local Government of Anambra State on Saturday, 30th September recorded a massive compliance to the monthly sanitation exercise.

Measures outlined by the state government for the sanitation exercise was followed including ensuring that residents spend the hours of 7Am – 9:59Am at home, cleaning up their surroundings.

The Zonal Commander of OCHA brigade, Southern Zone, Mr. Obi Emmanuel, said that the sanitation exercise was so robust because all corners of Nnewi North was involved, “We ensured that there was no free movement within the recommended hours”.

The Deputy Local Government Chairman of Nnewi North, Mrs Chinelo Iloka, also weighed in on the remarkable sanitation exercise. The adminitrative icon who also doubles as the Secretary to the Local Government while speaking to Anaedoonline revealed the exercise has been in effect for a while to promote enviromental maintainance.

She however, revealed that the state government in a bid to enhance enviromental maintaince have flagged off three roads for construction in Nnewi, while two will be commissioned soon, the bank road will experience major work soon.

However, Uju Edokwe, the protocol officer to Nnewi North Transition Chairman, Hon. Engr. Chris Obiora, speaking on behalf of the Chairman, revealed that the yesterday’s sanitation exercise was done in collaboration with all the constituted bodies, regulatory authorities, the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN), the Town Unions, the ward executives and Chairmen, the health department, the supervisors of the council, OCHA brigade, ARTMA to work in synergy in ensuring that the sanitation is a huge success by enforcing the complete compliance by the people.

She however, revealed persons or institutions that the law will not come against during this exercise.

Her words; The enviromental and regulatory authorities are on ground to work in synergy to achieve success with the sanitation exercise. Nnewi residents are encouraged by this groups to abide by the once in a month exercise.

“During this exercise, no vehicular or human movement will be condoned or tolerated except for people in the health sector or people who have some special assignment or unavoidable engagements. But this groups or individuals must, however, have their ID card or a written clearance to show the sanitation enforcers or officers for easy road access”.

The Nnewi sanitation exercise on the 30th of September was a huge success, the level of compliance was high and people are encouraged to imbide the spirit of a clean enviroment in other to promote good health and less infested enviroment.
