Commander Allegedly Locks Up Army Officer For Exposing Poor Feeding Of Soldiers

Lt. Col. A. A. Buba, the Nigerian Army’s 154 Taskforce Battalion’s commanding officer in the northeast, is said to have imprisoned Corporal Sunday Okediran over claims of subpar soldier nutrition.

Despite increasing funding for their feeding, Anaedoonline.ng learned that Okediran was imprisoned because he was accused of exposing the bad eating conditions of army officials.

According to a report from SaharaReporters on Monday, some members of the 154 Taskforce Battalion who were sent to the Northeast to combat terrorism complained that they were receiving subpar rice despite an increase in funding for their eating allowance.

One of the affected soldiers had claimed to the media that the Lt. Col. A. A. Buba-led Battalion in Ngamdu served them nothing but bread and tea for breakfast on Mondays and Thursdays, rice for dinner on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and stew on Tuesdays, Fridays, and other days of the week “but concussion rice on the remaining weekdays.”

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, demanded an immediate investigation into the claim in response.

The COAS stated that among other crucial plans and factors, the wellbeing of the troops under his command takes precedence in a statement released on Tuesday by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.

However, on Thursday it was learned through the platform that on Wednesday morning Lt. Col. Buba had directed that Corporal Okediran be imprisoned.

A source told the platform that the soldier had been imprisoned in the guard room since Wednesday morning for supposedly being the source of the revelation of the Commanding Officer’s bad treatment of soldiers’ nutrition.

The source said, “I have it on good authority that one Corporal Sunday Okediran has been locked up on the orders of the Commander, Lt. Col. A. A. Buba, after he was accused of being the whistle-blower exposing how soldiers are poorly fed.

“He has been locked up in the guard room since yesterday (Wednesday) morning.”
