The National Coordinator of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Musa Saidu, has urged the federal government to disregard calls for the fragmentation of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. According to Saidu, Tantita has been effective in securing oil facilities and reducing oil theft, and splitting the surveillance job could be detrimental to the nation’s economy.

Saidu stated, “Tantita is working well; it has reduced stealing of oil. Splitting of jobs for oil pipeline surveillance should be discouraged. Tantita should be allowed to continue what it has been doing.” He further emphasized that those advocating for the splitting of the surveillance job do not have the nation’s best interests at heart and should be ignored.

Additionally, Saidu called for the restructuring of the Joint Task Force component of the military to enhance its success in combating oil theft. He urged top officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, to establish protocols for proper accounting of impounded tankers with oil products in various security bases in the Niger Delta.

Saidu highlighted his efforts as the Coordinator of IPMAN on anti-pipeline vandalism and product monitoring, mentioning that they had arrested tankers involved in illegal bunkering operations and handed them over to the military. He also urged key figures like the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to revisit a comprehensive document his IPMAN unit had provided, detailing illegal bunkering sites in the Niger Delta. This information, he believes, would significantly aid the fight against oil theft.
