UPDATE: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Reinstated As Emir Of Kano

by Victor Ndubuisi

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II is scheduled to return to Kano after being reinstituted as the Emir of Kano.

According to information obtained by Newsmen, this move came about as a result of the Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution to remove the present Emir from office and dissolve the four new Emirates that the State had created as a result of a contentious 2019 law.

Despite the lack of an official declaration, trustworthy sources say Sanusi II is anticipated in Kano on Friday.

Ganduje: Sanusi Was Appointed Emir To Spite Jonathan

According to credible inside sources who spoke to Leadership Media, “So certainly, with the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated. No need for confirmation, the thing to do is wait for the Governor to assent to it.”

Restructuring the Kano Emirate is perceived as a political ploy to weaken the clout of Emir Sanusi II, who has been a vociferous opponent of the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The old Kano Emirate Council’s power and influence were diminished as a result of the formation of the new emirates, which divided its authority.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, shortly after Thursday’s session, revealed to journalists that, “the bill has been sent to the governor for assent, now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in all the five Emirates; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye. The law now allows the governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.”
