Bayern Munich is on the verge of appointing Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as their new head coach, replacing Thomas Tuchel. This development has been reported by German and English media, including Bild, Sky, and The Guardian.

The Belgian manager has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Bayern Munich. The German giants are now negotiating a compensation package with Burnley, as Kompany still has four years remaining on his contract with the recently relegated club.

Burnley, after just one season in the Premier League, were relegated back to the Championship, finishing 19th in the 20-team league.

Bayern Munich decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel in February after the team fell behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race. Tuchel had guided Bayern to the Champions League semi-finals, where they were defeated by Real Madrid, but stated that an agreement to continue with the club could not be reached.

Kompany, who has experience in the Bundesliga from his playing days at Hamburg before his successful stint at Manchester City, took over Burnley in 2022. He led Burnley to promotion as second-division champions but couldn’t maintain their Premier League status.

Bayern Munich considered several candidates for the coaching position, including Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria’s Ralf Rangnick, all of whom reportedly declined the role. Kompany has emerged as the latest candidate, and Bayern Munich is now focused on finalizing the details of his move.
