Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, a former PDP National Youth Leader, has been elected as the party’s new national secretary by the South-East Zone of the PDP.
This was stated in a communiqué that the South-East Zone Vice Chairman of the PDP, Chief Ali Odefa, read following the weekend South-East Zonal Executive Meeting held in Enugu.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and other important party figures from the South-East region were present at the conference.
In addition, the party actively promoted Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP’s candidate for governor of Imo State, urging its supporters there to put down their differences and band together to ensure the party’s success.
The gathering, according to Odefa, adopted a resolution designating Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary of the party in order to allow Senator Anyanwu concentrate on his electioneering campaign in Imo State.
“The position of the National Secretary will be a kind of distraction to his electioneering campaign and victory at the polls.
“Therefore, the South-East Zone, having met and brainstormed, we have come up with a nomination from Enugu State in the person of Rt. Hon. S.K Udeh-Okoye to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“We shall send our resolutions in writing to the National Working Committee of our great party for ratification on behalf of the National Executive Committee as provided by our party constitution,” he added.
He continued by saying that the decision to back Anyanwu was made collectively and that the party would do everything in its power to ensure that Anyanwu would win the election.
“We have resolved that as South-East members of PDP, we must all do our utmost best to support our candidate in the November 11 gubernatorial election in the person of Senator Samuel Anyanwu to win.
“All party members in Imo State are encouraged to put in their best,” he further stressed.
Governor Mbah, the party’s zone leader, earlier urged party members to remain steadfast and dedicated to the party, promising that with commitment and unity of purpose, the party would be successful in the Imo governorship elections. Governor Mbah is the leader of the party in the zone.
