Friends of Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State, have raised almost N1 billion to help him run for reelection next month.

At the Landmark Event Centre in Owerri on Thursday night, the governor’s friends made donations.

Among the generous benefactors who supported their own enterprises, families, and self-interest were Dr. Johnbosco Ozigbo, Sir Bennett Nwokejiobi, Chief Tony Chukwu, Prince Charles Amadi, Eze Imo, and HRM EC Okeke.

Friends of Uzodinma claimed that their desire to be a part of the governor’s historical legacy—which stems from his excellent leadership qualities—was what motivated them to financially support his aspiration.

The governor in his remarks noted that: “I feel humbled by the quantum of encomiums this night and more importantly, the quantum of money raised this night. I feel very challenged by the commendations tonight and I think it will provoke a new appetite in me to do more for our state.”

Speaking during the ceremony, Sen. Osita Izunaso, the chairman of the organising committee, claimed that the reason for the occasion was because the governor’s allies believed he had performed well enough to warrant a second term.

Additionally, the convener and all of the governor’s friends were thanked by the occasion’s chairman, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (retd), a former chief of staff of the army.
