The Pan Niger Delta Forum, Afenifere, and the Middle Belt Forum, together with other pan-Yoruba organisations, have been urged by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Igbo elite socio-cultural institution, to caution the Nigerian government that the country’s future is uncertain in the absence of restructuring.

Leaders and elders from the South-East, South-West, South-South, and Middle Belt regions declared, under the auspices of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum, that all citizens of the nation are entitled to it, irrespective of their political affiliation or ethnic representation.

UPDATE: Ohanaeze Reiterates Call For Restructuring

The organisation called on the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to reconstruct the nation and restore true federalism, as guaranteed by the constitutions of 1960 and 1963.

“Without restructuring, Nigeria’s future and democracy remain bleak and must, therefore, be carried out immediately,” the group continued.

Newsmen were able to secure a copy of the communiqué, which was made public on Friday following their national conference that took place in Abuja on Thursday.

The group claims that certain regions of the nation have continuously suffered in terms of the number of states, local governments, and even appointments to the Federal Executive Council.

It said that it was important to give due consideration to the demands made by the leaders of the South-East to be “appropriately represented on the Federal Executive Council, similar to other geo-political zones”.

In order to advance peace and security in the South-East, the SMBLF further recommended that the FG move quickly to free Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The meeting which was chaired by its leader, Chief Edwin Clark, had in attendance several national leaders including the leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo; President-General of Ohanaeze, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; President, MBF, Dr Pogu Bitrus; and, National Chairman, PANDEF, Senator Emmanuel Ibok-Essien, amongst others.
