The highest Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed gratitude to the G-5 governors and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for crushing Atiku Abubakar’s lifelong dream of becoming the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

According to a statement signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, according to Anaedoonline.ng, Atiku ought to step down from politics due to his disregard for the zoning formula in the previous presidential election.

The group also applauded Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of Afenifere, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo for their support of Peter Obi, the nominee of the Labour Party (LP).

“Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s lifelong ambition to become president has reached its conclusion.

“It is now the opportune moment for him to gracefully retire from active politics, recognizing that his age necessitates this sacrifice to salvage the PDP, which he externally damaged in 2015 by aligning with the APC to remove Jonathan and internally in 2023 by disregarding the zoning formula that favored the Southeast and the Igbo people.”
