A political rift between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, has led to a political crisis in the state. However, President Bola Tinubu intervened in the ongoing feud between these political allies during the Police Council meeting, where both were in attendance as members.

President Tinubu’s Mediation:

The intervention by President Tinubu was revealed by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting held at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Despite their ongoing feud, Governor Fubara and former Governor Wike exchanged pleasantries within the Council Chambers, setting the stage for potential reconciliation efforts.

Opposition Governors’ Collaboration with the President:

Governor Mohammed, who chairs the People’s Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), also shared that opposition governors have decided to collaborate with President Tinubu. This decision was based on the President’s demonstrated good faith in not interfering with gubernatorial cases brought before the courts by PDP members.

Peace Initiatives and Confirmation of the Inspector General of Police:

The peace-building efforts occurred in the context of the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Police Council. The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, explained that the council confirmed Egbetokun because of his exemplary performance since his appointment in an acting capacity.
