Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential communications aide, has denounced the killing of two people by burning in Anambra State by a furious crowd.

In a message published on the X platform, Ahmad defined the violent deed seen in the video as horrific and savage.

Recall that angry crowds in Onitsha’s major market, Anambra State, on Wednesday set two alleged criminals on fire who were supposedly scaring people on Sokoto Road.

The individuals were charged with participating in unlawful revenue collection.

In response to the jungle justice meted out to the accused, Ahmad attacked and questioned the humanity of those who had participated in the suspects’ burning to death, even as he denounced the culprits’ actions.

He called for respect for the rule of law in such cases.

Taking to his account on Thursday, he wrote: “Watching the barbaric video of the burning to death the two individuals, Chinedu and Omama, in Anambra, allegedly involved in illegal revenue collection was so traumatic. It was an act of violence that went against the principles of justice and the rule of law. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy.

“While it is crucial to address issues of illegal revenue collection and ensure compliance with the law, it is equally essential to uphold humanity and due process.

“Vigilantism and taking the law into one’s hands should never be encouraged and tolerated.”
