Udengs Eradiri, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, has responded to the party’s defection of six local government chairmen.

It was previously reported that six of the party’s eight local government chairmen abandoned Eradiri on the day of the election due to the alleged exclusion of party executives and structure from the governorship campaign.

The leaders also stated that Eradiri purposefully refused to inaugurate the campaign council, instead appointing simply a two-man campaign structure to act as errand boys.

The party leaders stated in a statement issued in Yenagoa on Friday that Eradiri declined multiple invitations to appear before the party’s State Executives and counsel on needed synergy with party officials.

Super Kworkwor (Yenagoa), Ifiemi Ilahnyog (Southern Ijaw), Clinton Naru Emesua (Ogbia), Tamuno Deifugha (Kolokuma/Opokuma), Warri Moses (Sagbama), and Appi Ebierelayefa Stephen (Nembe) are the party chairmen.

In response to the claims, Eradiri told Newsmen that he was not concerned about the party leaders’ departure, branding them as “betrayers who can trade anything for parochial gains.”

He further claimed that the disgruntled party leaders chose to desert him after receiving N100 million from the state governor, Douye Diri, before of the election.

“I don’t know how to do party politics; it is so unfortunate that Bayelsa is in this state,” he said.
