The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called for industrial action, and bank and electricity workers have joined them.

The NLC posted circulars from its affiliate unions indicating their support for the strike, which started at midnight to condemn the attack on its president, Joe Ajaero, on Facebook early on Tuesday morning.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) are a few of the unions that have joined the strike.

Recall that in response to the attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero, Organised Labour issued a directive to its members on Monday to begin preparing for a statewide strike.

Festus Osifo, the president of the TUC, told reporters in front of the NLC National Secretariat in Abuja that the strike would continue until all tiers of government realised their obligations.

Thus, he gave its affiliates instructions to carry out the National Executive Council’s (NEC) resolutions.
