The leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) were invited by the federal government to an urgent meeting on Friday.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Federal Government scheduled the meeting to prevent the anticipated statewide strike on October 3.

The government’s refusal to provide palliatives to mitigate the effects of removing the subsidy on petrol prompted the unions to declare an indefinite strike by the workforce.

Later this evening, the meeting is set to take place in the conference room of Aso Villa, which houses the office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

According to Vanguard, the Federal Government had scheduled the meeting for this afternoon at 12 o’clock but changed the time to allow organised labour to contact their leaders outside of Abuja.

The government invited the NLC and its TUC counterpart this morning via the Ministry of Labour and Employment, according to sources.
