Imo Governorship Election Results: LP Stages Protest at INEC Headquarters

In protest over the results of the November 11 governor’s race, the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State held a protest outside the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) national headquarters in Abuja.

With signs with various slogans, the irate demonstrators, led by Athan Achonu, the party’s governorship candidate, demanded Certified True Copies of the election results the panel conducted in Imo State.

They said that the results INEC possesses on its system differs from the results the commission announced.

UPDATE: Labour Party Supporters Storm INEC Office In Imo

The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Governor Hope Uzodimma was proclaimed the victor of the Imo State gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Uzodimma was proclaimed the election’s victor by Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti in the state of Ekiti.

With 71,503 votes, Samuel Anyanwu, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), finished far behind the governor with 540,308 votes.

With 64,081 votes, Athan Achonu, the candidate for the Labour Party, finished third.

In Owerri, the state capital, results collation began on Sunday at around two in the morning.

Imo Election: INEC Speaks On Denying Labour Party Access To Certified True Copies Of Election Materials

The All Progressives Congress’s Governor Uzodimma won in each of the state’s 27 local government districts, despite the fact that 18 parties submitted candidates for the election, according to INEC.

Additionally, they claim that there were other anomalies throughout the election, such as ballot box stuffing, vote-buying, and voter intimidation.

The LP’s claims have not yet received a response from INEC.
