Mele Kyari Reveals When Port Harcourt Refinery Will Commence Operations

According to Mele Kyari, the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL), the Port Harcourt refinery is scheduled to start up by the end of December this year.

He revealed this to Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on a recent visit.

The commitment goes beyond Port Harcourt; plans call for the Warri and Kaduna refineries to open for business in the first and second quarters of 2024, respectively.

Kyari stated, “I can confirm to you that by the end of December this year, we will start the Port Harcourt refinery; early in the first quarter of 2024, we will start the Warri refinery; and by the end of 2024, the Kaduna refinery will come into operation.”

This declaration coincides with a history of controversy and multiple revisions to the Port Harcourt refinery timeline.

Nonetheless, Kyari’s guarantee aims to bolster trust in the NNPCL’s dedication to restoring the country’s refining capability.
