The Court of Appeal in Lagos State is about to rule on the controversial Ogun State 2023 governorship race, which is a much awaited development.

The case centres on a petition that Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), filed to overturn Governor Dapo Abiodun’s (APC) victory in the March 18 election.

In his appeal, Adebutu claims that the Electoral Act was broken, citing anomalies and unethical behaviour that he claims ruined the voting process.

The disenfranchisement of nearly 40,000 voters as a result of violent incidents during the election is one of the main points of contention.

Adebutu was disappointed when the tribunal supported Governor Abiodun’s victory after he had approached it with the intention of nullifying it and declaring himself the winner.

The public and political analysts are both paying attention to the alleged ongoing procedures at the Court of Appeal located in Igbosere, Lagos.

The verdict in this case is expected to have a big impact on Ogun State politics since it will decide whether Governor Abiodun’s win is upheld or if Adebutu takes over as governor and charts a new path.
