The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman for Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward in the Ezinihitte Mbaise council area of Imo, Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu, has reportedly been assassinated. This is a startling development.
Lancelot Obiaku, the party’s head of new media, verified the event on Friday in Owerri.
Anyanwu’s wife was present when the two attackers, who rode a motorbike, killed him, according to accounts.
After asking his wife for him, they allegedly opened fire on him, killing him multiple times before fleeing only after they were certain he was dead.

The PDP family and the neighbourhood have been rocked by the ward chairman’s death. Following the party’s loss in the November 11, 2023, governorship election in the state, adding to the gloom surrounding the party.
It’s interesting to note that after the most recent Imo governorship election, an anonymous party woman was accused of threatening to hurt Anyanwu. But the details surrounding the murder are still unknown, and the party’s director of new media has not released any additional remarks.
Henry Okoye, the State Police PPRO, has not yet reacted to questions regarding the incident as of the time of publication.
