At the 48th Convocation and 53rd Founders’ Day of the University of Benin, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki declared that Edo State first-class graduates would be automatically recruited into the State Civil and Public Service.

Speaking to the crowd at the main campus of UNIBEN, Obaseki conveyed his appreciation for the university’s contribution in establishing Edo State as a centre for the development of human ability.

Governor Obaseki stated, “It is now a standing policy for the Edo State Government that any student of Edo State origin graduating with a first-class degree from any recognised university gets an automatic job from the Edo State Government.”

This commitment covers 179 students, even if they decide not to continue their education right now. The governor acknowledged the university’s influence as well.

“This university is all about knowledge for service and what this university has done to position Edo State in Nigeria in terms of human capacity development is unheard of”, he said.

During the ceremony, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki received a doctorate as a token of appreciation. She acknowledged her husband, Governor Obaseki, for her accomplishment and revealed plans for a legacy project at UNIBEN’s Ekenwan Campus. She also dedicated the degree to him.
