Bruce Fein, a renowned American lawyer, brought up important concerns about Nigeria’s democracy, claiming that the current status of the country lacks a truly democratic foundation.
Fein, who has been well-known in the legal media for more than 50 years, has contested the validity of Nigeria’s constitution, claiming the military imposed it without the consent of the people.
“True change requires constitutional rework; Tinubu’s removal is not enough,” he declared.

Fein claimed that the presidency had undue control over the judiciary and voiced serious worries about it, especially under Buhari and Tinubu. Notably, he charged Tinubu with using money to influence the court, while Buhari resorted to threats. Fein, who referred to Nigeria as a “illegal state,” supported NADECO’s goal of ousting Tinubu and suggested a variety of strategies.
Among these was a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that sought to expose Tinubu’s purported complicity in drug trafficking and fraud. Fein promoted a persistent public advocacy campaign, highlighting the judiciary’s fragility.
Fein pleaded on members of the US Congress to work together to prevent Tinubu from being recognised and to include him to the Global Magnitsky list in order to win over foreign support. He emphasised the necessity of thorough reform and the significance of strong checks and balances in constitutional reform.

Mr. Fein emphasised the need for group action against the current administration and stated that he was willing to work with NADECO.
