The attempted coup in Sierra Leone’s capital city on Sunday morning has been denounced by the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Cockrill Barracks was the scene of a significant gunfire incident.

The government of Sierra Leone has imposed a curfew until further notice in response to the terrifying circumstances that are now occurring in Freetown.

Additionally, the government assured the populace that the event was under the control of state security forces.

The Republic of Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, signed and issued the following statement on Sunday morning: “Security Update and Nationwide Curfew Announcement.”

ECOWAS reaffirmed in a statement on Sunday that it will not tolerate any unlawful changes to government and pledged to help Sierra Leone strengthen its democracy and good governance.

The statement reads, “The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has learnt with utter disgust a plot by certain individuals to acquire arms and disturb the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone. ECOWAS condemns this act and calls for the arrest and prosecution of all participants in this illegal act.

“ECOWAS reiterates its zero-tolerance for unconstitutional change of Government.
