Oladele Jegede, the senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Everlasting Light), has urged Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to declare a national Thanksgiving holiday in Nigeria.
The request was made on Sunday in the church auditorium in Lugbe, Abuja, during the annual women’s convention with the theme “Overflowing with Gratitude.”
Pastor Jegede gave thanks to God that the country has survived despite a number of obstacles, including as the COVID-19 pandemic and previous elections.

He said, “We are giving thanks to God Almighty today because, despite the situation in the country and in the world at large, the Almighty God has sustained us. God has made us to be a victor.”
He further emphasized the need for a dedicated day of thanksgiving, saying, “I therefore believe that as a country we should have a time to be thanking God because, despite the situation in the country, God still sustains us.”
Echoing Pastor Jegede’s comments, Mrs. Lydia Jegede encouraged legislators and Tinubu to consider declaring a “National Thanksgiving Day” for the country.
She underlined that only those who truly express gratitude can truly benefit from God’s blessings, and she encouraged Bola Tinubu to use his position to designate one day annually for Nigerians to worship God.
