Supreme Court Bench: NJC Commences Screening Of 22 Justices

The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has proposed 22 justices to the Supreme Court Bench, and the National Judicial Council (NJC) has begun the vetting process for these nominees.

A high-level evaluation is being conducted as part of the screening process at the NJC Boardroom, and numerous justices are present.

22 Justices Nominated For Elevation To Supreme Court (See Full List)

It is expected that the panel would deliberate for about a week before choosing 11 justices out of the 22 nominees.

The goal of this stringent procedure is to select justices who would take over the duties vacated since Justice Amina Augie’s retirement in September 2023.

22 justices from the Court of Appeal to the NJC were nominated by the FJSC earlier this month, according to reports, for confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Two nominations each from the South-West and South-South areas, six from the South-East, and two from the North-East comprise the distribution of the nominees.
