Nigerians’ reactions to senators and representatives chanting “On Your Mandate, We Shall Stand” at Bola Tinubu at the 2024 budget presentation have been seen.

Critics contend that the purpose of legislators is to represent the people, not to extol the president.

Many Nigerians expressed their displeasure with the development on their X handles.

Notable journalist David Hundeyin [@davidhundeyin] in his remarks, criticised the National Assembly, stating, “The National Assembly shouldn’t only sing praise songs in worship of a drug dealer who has no electoral mandate. They should also adopt a special greeting and maybe a salute to honour this great man. They could also adopt a special symbol to show fealty”.

Another user, @ejykmykel1, questioned the appropriateness of the chant, asking, “What is wrong with everybody in this country? How can you sing this for someone who you claim is your president? What happened to our national anthem? The National Assembly and all its members are Jokers.”

@aai_austin also expressed his disapproval, stating, “Every well-meaning Nigerian must condemn this rendition of Tinubu’s campaign tune in National Assembly Chamber. God forbid. An evidence of outright Totalitarianism.”
