Through Stanley Nkwocha, his spokesperson, Kashim Shettima has refuted Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, accusing him of wastefulness and justified the N15 billion award for a new home. “It was not originated by the present administration,” he said, emphasising that the project’s origins can be traced back to the administration of previous President Goodluck Jonathan.

In an attempt to discredit Bola Tinubu’s administration, Nkwocha charged that Obi had purposefully disregarded the project’s past in order to gain political capital. The spokesman emphasised that the project had been abandoned for more than ten years, exposing the sad condition of the partially constructed building that was “overtaken by weeds and reptiles.” According to Nkwocha, Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the FCT, realised it would be useless to drop a project that was paid for with public money, thus he made the decision to revive the construction.

He refuted Obi’s claim that the project was wasteful, calling on “more cerebral Nigerians to crosscheck properly” and highlighting the administration’s dedication to seeing important projects across the country that have been put on hold.

Nkwocha concluded by stating, “The array of abandoned Federal Government projects littered all over the country is a national embarrassment that the current administration has taken a bold step to save the country from.” He stressed that, completing existing projects remains a priority before initiating new ones, except in cases of strategic alignment or economic significance.
