Following a catastrophic collision on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway that claimed the lives of eighteen people and injured twenty-seven more, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal Dauda Biu has directed the impoundment of cars that transport both people and animals.

Concerned about the event, Biu ordered all Sector Commanders to form combined task teams and work with other organisations to seize trucks and trailers that were transporting people and animals.

Furthermore, Biu demanded that the drivers engaging in these actions face legal repercussions.

Biu’s message was relayed by Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem, who said that specific operations to end this harmful behaviour require the formation of collaborative task teams with sister agencies.

“To reverse the trend, all Sector Commanders are to set up joint task forces to impound trailers and trucks carrying humans and animals. The courts should prosecute the drivers,” Biu said in a statement issued on Sunday.

In order to effectively address this threat, Biu emphasised the significance of cooperation between many agencies, such as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Army, Vehicle Inspection Officers, and the police.

Biu expressed shock at the careless attitude of drivers who disregard fundamental traffic laws and described the accident as preventable. In order to stop such accidents from happening on the country’s highways, the directive intends to improve enforcement and coordination efforts.
