Tony Okocha, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) caretaker committee chairman in Rivers State, provided an update on the political standoff between Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and state governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday.
Okocha observed that President Bola Tinubu’s attempt to patch up the differences between Wike and Fubara had failed.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, President Tinubu recently met with Fubara and Wike at the presidential palace in Abuja in an attempt to resolve the political unrest in Rivers.

However, as a result of the crisis, the state administration destroyed the state House of Assembly building in the final few days, and 27 assembly members who supported Wike defected to the APC.
“I wasn’t part of it, but whatever that was, has broken down, and it has been broken irreconcilably,” Okocha stated at a press conference held on Thursday in Abuja at the APC national office.
Additionally, he claimed that the four members of the state House of Assembly, led by the divisive Speaker Edison Ehie, were focusing on criminality and that their actions would not be tolerated as they sat and approved the budget that Governor Fubara had offered them for the fiscal year 2024.
According to Okocha, the APC is courting Wike to join them, emphasising that once he does, he will take over as the party’s governor of the state.
