UPDATE: Ex-NNPC GMD, Thomas John, Is Dead

The demise of Dr. Thomas Maurice Asuquo John, a former Group Managing Director (GMD) and Acting Alternate Chairman of the Board of the now-defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been officially confirmed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.). This is a sad occurrence.

Dr. John was eighty-four when he passed away.

An esteemed personality in the oil and gas sector, Dr. John succeeded the late Dr. Aret Adams as the fifth general manager of NNPC from April 1990 to June 1992. His services were distinguished by a strong dedication to the expansion and advancement of the industry.

Dr. John has a distinguished career outside of NNPC, having held prominent roles in a number of organisations.

Among his many noteworthy positions were those of Executive Chairman at Hydropec Engineering Services Ltd., Non-Executive Director at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc., and Non-Executive Director at South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO).

In a condolence message to Dr. John’s wife, family, friends, and relatives during this difficult time, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mr. Mele Kyari, spoke on behalf of NNPC Ltd. Management and Staff.
