Bode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that if the current political unrest in Rivers State is not promptly resolved, it may eventually extend throughout Nigeria.

George said as much on Thursday during his appearance on Arise Television.

He urged the PDP’s leadership to step in and put an end to the situation.

“Rivers is a very important state electoral-wise. The crisis can spread to other parts of the country. I want to plead with all sides in the interest of this nation. This is not the time to fight; our economic situation is terrible. People are hungry and angry.

“Where is the leader of the PDP? What’s he doing? The party leaders should defend and resolve this crisis,” George said.

In recent days, the pandemonium has centred around the Rivers State Assembly.

The disagreement between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, is the cause of the situation.

Along those lines, the state assembly has divided into factions, each driven by allegations, defections, and attempts to remove their respective leaders.
