According to reports, lawmakers who support Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have obtained a court order that was released by Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The delivery of the paper is scheduled for Monday, December 18, 2023. It is believed to offer legal protection when these lawmakers begin the process of impeaching Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Given that the leaked court order purports to protect the pro-Wike lawmakers from legal repercussions while they proceed with the impeachment process, tensions in Rivers State are predicted to rise.

A recent mass defection of 27 MPs from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the cause of the developing dispute.

In a rapid response, Governor Fubara declared the seats of the defectors void, escalating the already intense political struggle between the two groups.

The State High Court in Port Harcourt last week granted an order enabling the governor Fubara-backed Rivers House of Assembly, which consists of four members, to hold legislative sessions without intervention, adding another level of chaos to the situation.

But in the middle of the power struggle, the state government ordered the assembly complex to be demolished, claiming structural flaws.
