The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, revealed plans for bye-elections to fill parliamentary vacancies on February 1, 2024, during a recent meeting with leaders of political parties.
Rerun elections are required in 34 federal and state constituencies as a result of the action, which is in reaction to court orders, resignations, and deaths.
Following legal fights, the courts directed that one senatorial seat, eleven federal constituencies, and twenty-two state constituencies be filled.
