On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s election.

The main judge, Justice Mohammed Garba, characterised the claim that Mbah lacked the National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, as only an allegation. An accreditation.

All of the arguments made in the appeal against the appellant were addressed by the court.

The Labour Party’s Chijioke Edeoga, the appellant, had brought INEC and Mbah before the court to contest the Court of Appeal’s ruling that had rejected his challenge to the governor’s election.

In a unanimous ruling, the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court addressed each of the three points raised against the appellant, Edeoga.

The appellant was unable to provide evidence showing the respondent lacked the necessary qualifications to run for governor, according to the three-member panel led by Justice Tani Hassan.

In response to the charge of excessive voting, Hassan concluded in her lead judgement that the voters’ register was never submitted to the lower tribunal, emphasising that this made the appeal inadmissible.
