According to Hon. Amobi Ogah, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal district, the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently jailed, is essential to bringing about long-lasting peace in the South East geopolitical zone.
Speaking to reporters at his country home in Onuaku, Uturu, the Labour Party Representative expressed optimism that Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu would take notice of calls for a political solution to Kanu’s imprisonment.
He emphasised the members of the South East National Assembly’s grave worries about the damaging effects of Kanu’s protracted confinement on the people and economy of the region.

Invoking Tinubu to step in, Hon. Ogah echoed the demands of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organisation, which had asked for Kanu’s release as a “Christmas gift to Ndigbo.”
Ogah brought up the South East Development Commission Bill as a possible remedy, claiming that its passage into law will deal with the underlying issues that lead to unrest and conflict in the area.
In addition, he called for those responsible for the disturbances to be granted amnesty and to give up violence in favour of peace for the good of all.
In order to ensure Kanu’s freedom and revive the region’s economy, the member stressed the South East caucus’ solidarity at the National Assembly.
He urged young people and interested parties to attend the next summit in Abia State on December 28th, which is slated to focus on revitalising the South East economy.
