Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, has patched things up with Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, in the wake of a recent disagreement over the state’s traditional rulers.

Igwe Damian Ezeani, the formerly suspended traditional ruler of Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, was reinstated to signify the reconciliation.

It all started with allegations that Igwe Ezeani and other monarchs had bestowed unofficial chieftaincy titles on individuals, most notably Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who had just joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Igwe Achebe made a public protest about the Neni monarch’s suspension and other connected matters.

He sent a long letter criticising Governor Soludo for what he saw as a disrespectful attitude towards the state’s established institutions.

Nonetheless, a statement made public in Awka on Wednesday by Christian Aburime, the governor’s press secretary, declared a change in the circumstances.

Following their claimed misbehaviour, Governor Soludo pardoned two other traditional rulers and reinstalled the Neni monarch.

Aburime disclosed that 94 monarchs attended a conference held at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, where the decision was reached.

In an effort to promote good connections with traditional leaders around the state, the governor also used the occasion to discuss a number of welfare concerns that were specific to the monarchs.

According to him, “The Governor announced that with the apologies of the affected Traditional Rulers, the State government accepts their apologies, and subsequently reinstates the Traditional Ruler of Neni, and forgive the Traditional Rulers of Ojoto and Aguluezechukwu.

“Mr Governor further clarified the legal status of the Igwe Nawfia as advised by his legal team.
