Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has reinstated nine commissioners who had resigned earlier due to political unrest in the state.

On Friday, the swearing-in ceremony was held at the Government House in Port Harcourt’s state Executive Council Chambers.

Under current Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, eight of the reappointed commissioners served in the prior government.

They had resigned on their own volition in the second half of the previous year, amid a wave of political unrest. Gift Worlu, the ninth commissioner, is a native of Wike’s local government region and was not previously a member of the administration.

Governor Fubara, in his congratulatory address, urged the re-sworn in commissioners to prioritize the welfare of the state.

Fubara stated, “I don’t think I have any charge for you. You have already read your charge to uphold the Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. I urge you to do the right thing.

“I can see how heavy your hearts are. I don’t blame you. You were caught between the crossfire.”
