The leading Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged Chief Bola Tinubu to consult eminent economists in order to address Nigeria’s economic issues.

The organisation stressed the need for immediate action to address the country’s economic problems in a statement issued on Thursday by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group’s secretary-general.

Ohanaeze emphasised the value of consulting based on merit rather than tribal affiliations, citing the experience of well-known economists like Drs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Oby Ezekwesili, and Akinwumi Adesina, among others.

Isiguzoro stated, “The path to success lies in concrete and genuine consultations with the aforementioned world-renowned economists.”

The announcement is made in the midst of severe economic hardship, which is typified by skyrocketing costs for necessities and a depreciating Naira. Tinubu was ordered by the Federal High Court to control prices within seven days following recent demonstrations over the exorbitant expense of living.

Isiguzoro called for immediate action to stop further crises and warned that Nigerians were becoming less patient. He emphasised the necessity for a thorough makeover while criticising the apparent shortcomings of the existing economic team.

“In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo wholeheartedly pledges an unwavering commitment to championing the rights and interests of all Igbos and Nigerians,” Isiguzoro affirmed.
