Terrorism Charge: Nnamdi Kanu Files Fresh Application For Bail

The troubled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has re-filed an application for bail release.

Kanu requests to be freed on bond while the Federal Government’s treasonous criminal case against him is being investigated.

Trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja was alerted to Kanu’s request for bail on February 5 by his attorney, Mr. Alloy Ejimakor.

Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, has also been hired by the FG to handle the case’s prosecution.

The court was informed by Awomolo, SAN, that he had received Kanu’s updated bail request.

The leader of IPOB was initially taken into custody by security personnel in Lagos on October 14, 2015, has been in detention since June 29, 2021.

On April 25, 2017, Trial Judge Binta Nyako granted him bail based on health grounds following almost eighteen months of incarceration.

He was freed from the Kuje prison on April 28, 2017, following the fulfilment of the bail requirements.

However, the IPOB leader fled the nation halfway through the trial as troops raided his residence at Afara Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, resulting in the deaths of several of his supporters.

Court Sets Hearing Date for Nnamdi Kanu’s Case

On June 19, 2021, Kanu was apprehended again in Kenya. On June 27, 2021, security personnel remarkably brought him back to his own nation.

In response to the events, the trial court remanded him to the Department of State Services, or DSS, on June 29, 2021, where he remained till date.
