On Monday, civil society organisations (CSOs) from Edo State organised a sizable protest in Benin City to express their disapproval of the ongoing economic hardships that Nigerians are experiencing.

During the march, demonstrators expressed their displeasure by holding signs that said, “End Economic Hardship” and “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now.”

Similar demonstrations in Ibadan and Lagos, where citizens expressed displeasure with rising food costs and the excessive cost of living, preceded this wave of protests in Benin City.

The NLC decided to protest because it believes that when the fuel subsidy was removed on October 2, 2023, the government failed to carry out the commitments made.

Numerous organisations and individuals have been inspired by the NLC’s 14-day ultimatum to address the widespread misery, which has resulted in nonviolent protests across the country.
