Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale disclosed statements made by Chief Bola Tinubu’s government in a recent interview with TVC. Ngelale claims that political forces in the north are responsible for the current uptick in kidnappings in the region, which is meant to upset Nigeria’s stability under Tinubu’s leadership.

Ngelale emphasised how difficult it is to stop these kidnappings, especially in the North-Central, North-West, and North-East areas. The reappearance of mass kidnappings of pupils in Kaduna and Sokoto last week suggests that more work remains to be done despite efforts to safeguard the country.

Although Ngelale did not identify these “sub-regional geopolitical forces” precisely, he did highlight the cooperation between the US and Nigerian governments to guarantee the safe repatriation of over 280 kidnapped schoolchildren in Kaduna.

“It is worth noting that the United States government has also pledged its assistance to ensure that there is a full return of all of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped recently in Kaduna,” Ngelale stated.

He also underlined how crucial it is to step up regional cooperation in addition to international cooperation in order to counter the challenges that these regional actors represent.

Even Chief Tinubu denounced the kidnappings and urged security services to act quickly to free the youngsters and those who had been kidnapped. But Amnesty International and Peoples Democratic Party leader Atiku Abubakar criticised him for not doing enough to uphold his fundamental duty of protecting citizens’ security.

Ngelale’s claims that political forces in Northern Nigeria are responsible for the recent spate of kidnappings in Borno, Kaduna, and Sokoto have aroused controversy and raised concerns about the underlying motivations behind these crimes.
