In accordance with the most recent resolutions of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Advisor to the Chief, made the announcement.

At the emergency ECOWAS summit in Abuja on February 24, 2024, a significant decision was made to remove economic sanctions against a number of West African countries, including Guinea, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. Nigeria immediately followed suit and lifted Niger’s sanctions as a result.

The ECOWAS member states’ regional solidarity and collaboration will be greatly aided by this decision. Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to advancing peace, stability, and economic success in West Africa by supporting the regional bloc’s collective decision.

It is anticipated that the action will make cross-border trade and commerce easier, promoting regional economic development. It also emphasises how crucial Nigeria is to supporting regional integration initiatives and ECOWAS goals.

The easing of sanctions against Niger and Guinea marks a new phase of diplomatic engagement and cooperation within the ECOWAS group, as Nigeria advances towards regional integration and cooperation.

The decision is made in the middle of ECOWAS member nations’ continuous efforts to solve the region’s problems, which include political unrest, economic instability, and security threats.
