Nigerian music sensation Davido has initiated legal proceedings following a botched April Fool’s prank that falsely alleged his detention in Kenya over cocaine discovery on his private jet.
Denouncing the fabricated story as “highly irresponsible,” the 31-year-old Afrobeats icon has instructed his legal team to address the matter.
“I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world,” Davido clarified on social media. “Not in my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve visited throughout my career.”
The hoax, initially propagated by Kenya’s K24 TV on April Fool’s Day, quickly spread across various social media platforms. It gained significant traction, prompting a flurry of concerned inquiries following Davido’s recent performances in East Africa.

In response to the escalating situation, Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intervened, labeling the headline as “Fake News” via Twitter.
“I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue,” Davido affirmed on Tuesday. “I completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya without incident and have since returned home to Nigeria.”
Expressing his disdain for the fabrication of such serious allegations, Davido emphasized the irresponsibility of spreading misinformation, even in the context of April Fools’ Day.
“Regardless of the light-hearted nature of ‘April Fools’, the fabrication of international crimes is unacceptable,” Davido stated. “My legal team is pursuing necessary actions against the media entities responsible for disseminating this misinformation.”
As of now, K24 TV has not publicly addressed Davido’s decision to pursue legal recourse.
While many Kenyans condemned the ill-conceived prank, others on social media have expressed hopes for a peaceful resolution to the situation.
