In an unveiling ceremony at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, former Super Eagles winger Finidi George was officially introduced as the new coach of Nigeria’s senior national men’s team. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, took the opportunity to disclose the specifics of George’s contract, dispelling rumors of a one-year deal.

Contrary to speculations, Gusau clarified during an interview on Soccer Africa that George’s tenure extends until the culmination of 2026. He emphasized that the contract encompasses specific targets aimed at achieving optimal performance. Among these objectives are securing qualification for the upcoming Nations Cup and reaching at least the semi-finals, alongside qualifying for the World Cup and aspiring to advance to the quarter-finals.

Addressing the coaching staff selection process, Gusau asserted that the federation did not impose assistants on George. Rather, the Technical Director presented a list of candidates, from which George and his team handpicked the individuals they deemed most suitable. The chosen assistants include Daniel Amokachi, Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk
