The Abia State organised labour unions have announced an indefinite walkout over the failure to pay the N30,000 minimum wage and the N35,000 palliative award. The walkout is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 15, 2024.

The decision was announced in a letter dated July 8, 2024, and signed by the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Enogwe Ihechi, and the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Okoro Ogbonnaya.

Governor Alex Otti received the letter via his Chief of Staff.

The labour unions emphasised that the administration had previously been given a 14-day ultimatum, which had passed with no answer. The letter made it clear that this is the last seven-day warning, which will take effect as soon as it is received.
