Paul Onuachu wants to score more goals for the Super Eagles after his heroics against Benin Republic on Saturday, Anaedoonline.ng reports.

The 26-year-old, Nigeria’s highest scorer in Europe this season with 27 goals in 32 games, came off the bench in the 70th minute for Kelechi Iheanacho and scored the stoppage-time winner as the Eagles ended Benin Republic’s 22-game unbeaten home streak and advance to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon next year.

The goal was his second in eight games for the three-time African champions.

“I’m happy to have scored the match-winner for the team in Cotonou. I’ve worked very hard to get here. It’s like a long road but I’m very happy to be here and to get the opportunity and the goal. I want to do more like I have been doing with my club (Genk) this season. It has always been my dream to score for Nigeria in games and I want to do that regularly when I get an invitation to represent my fatherland. Onuachu told newsmen

Onuachu is also aiming to add to his tally if he gets a chance against Lesotho in the Eagles’ final Group L game on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.

“I hope to get another chance to prove my worth again,” he added.

The Eagles defeated Lesotho 4-2 in their first fixture in 2019.

Nigeria leads Group L with 11 points from five games and are followed by Benin Republic on seven points, while Sierra Leone and Lesotho occupy the third and fourth places respectively with four and three points.

Despite the blow of having qualification snatched from their grasp, though, Michel Dussuyer’s men remain very well placed indeed to reach the finals: they will still finish second in the group as long as they avoid defeat when they face Sierra Leone in Freetown on Tuesday.
