Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been affirmed by the Appeal Court in Lagos State as the legitimately elected governor of Rivers State.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, filed a petition against Governor Fubara and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but the court dismissed it.
This ruling upholds the earlier Tribunal ruling that had upheld Fubara’s election victory in October.

The APC, Tonye-Cole’s sponsor, withdrew its petition opposing Governor Fubara’s victory, the court noted.
Tonye-Cole personally came in court and requested a declaration identifying him as the election’s legitimate winner. He based his petition on anomalies and wrongdoings in the electoral process.
Governor Fubara’s authority as the duly elected governor of Rivers State, however, has been maintained by the Appeal Court’s decision.
