A traditional ruler from one of the communities in Nnewi has rejected gifts from Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Anaedoonline.ng has confirmed.

The incidence took place at the palace of Obi Uruagu, Afam Obi (Ogidi IV) during his new yam festival celebration, which saw many dignitaries at the palace who came to pay homeage to the young leader.

The Senator Ifeanyi Ubah entourage led by the Nnewi North Young Progressive Partry (YPP) Chairman, came with different gifts ranging from tubers of yam, bags of rice, three motor bikes, two cows and a cash gift was immediately rejected by the Obi Uruagu and his cabinet chiefs.

This incidence is believed to be connected to the suspension and the media trial of suspended TC Chairman of Nnewi North local government, Mr. Mbazulike Iloka.

Recall that the Obi of Okpuno Uruagu Nnewi, Obi Afam Iloka has called out Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone over social media attack on the suspended Nnewi North Local Government Chairman, Mbazulike Iloka.

The death of Lady Chidiebere Iloka was reported with many unconfirmed stories suggesting her death was a case of domestic violence and her husband, Mr Mbazulike Iloka (Mba Mba) responsible for her death.

The Afiaolu Nnewi 2022, Kicked off yesterday with a grand opening ceremony at Enete-Edo square in Nnewi with the presence of the traditional rulers led by the paramount traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe K.O.N Orizu.

Also in attendance were the Obi Umudim, Obi Benneth Okafor (Amaukwu Umudim), Elder Luis Nwachukwu, representing Obi Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba, all representing the various quarters of Nnewi.

The ceremony started with the Iwa-Oji by Igwe Orizu (the longest serving Monarch in West Africa) who prayed earnestly for the fruitfulness of ndi Nnewi. In his remarks, the Chairman of the event, Professor E. C. Ufodike welcomed the guests in his opening remarks.

The welcoming speech was delivered by the President General of Nzuko Ora Nnewi, Dr. Maduka Atueyi, in his speech revealed the importance of Agriculture in the society, and the need for the youths to engage in farming.

He however, revealed that Nzuko-Ora through his leadership has developed strategies to encourage youths, farmers in farming.

His words, “It may interest you to know that through our price giving strategies that it has rekindled the resilience and competitive nature in Olu-Ugbo amongst our youths as we promise to do even more in putting smiles in the faces of the illustrious sons and daughters”.

Many prominent sons of Nnewi were present including, the Chairman, Nzuko-Ora Nnewi Board of Trustees, Sir D. C. Ofordeme KSJ, KSS, Hon Donatus Onyenji, the commissioner for culture, Entertaiment and Tourism, Hon Nonso Smart Okafor, Chief Kenneth Maduako, CEO KM Oil and Gas.

The event also featured several cultural dancing groups from Different quarters that made up the city as well as Wresting competition with different types on masquerade displays

However, this year Afia-olu Nnewi cultural festival saw the presence of Two multinational companies; GUINESS BREWERY, UNILEVER NIG PLC- Producers of Knor cube seasoning .

The high point of the event was during the wrestling competition, where Umudim defeated Otolo, while Nnewichi won Uruagu by submission. The final will take place on the 27th August 2022.
